หลักการและเหตุผล

การวางแผนกำลังการผลิต (Capacity Planning) เป็นกระบวนการในการจัดหาทรัพยากรการผลิตที่จำเป็นต่อการทำให้บรรลุตามแผนการผลิต (Priority Plan) ที่ได้วางไว้สำหรับช่วงระยะเวลาหนึ่งในอนาคตอย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ รวมถึงวิธีการที่สามารถทำให้กำลังการผลิตมีอยู่พร้อม ซึ่งขึ้นอยู่กับเครื่องจักรและ/หรือกำลังคน โดยอาจพิจารณาถึงกำลังการผลิตในช่วงเวลาปกติ ล่วงเวลา จำนวนกะการทำงานรวมทั้งจากหน่วยผลิตอื่น ๆ ในโรงงาน และจากแหล่งภายนอก (Outsources) แผนการผลิตจะไม่สามารถนำไปดำเนินการได้ หากปราศจากกำลังการผลิตที่เพียงพอ           

       การวางแผนและควบคุมการผลิต (Production Planning and Control) เป็นหลักการในการกำหนดคุณค่าของการดำเนินงานผลิตและกำจัดความสูญเปล่าที่เกิดขึ้นในกระบวนการผลิตออกไปได้อย่างเหมาะสม ทำให้ต้นทุนการผลิตลดลง และทำให้เวลาการผลิตสั้นลงหรือเพิ่มผลผลิตได้มากขึ้นโดยใช้เวลาเท่าเดิมหรือลดลง รวมถึงสามารถสร้างความพึงพอใจให้กับลูกค้าได้อย่างไม่มีวันสิ้นสุด การวางแผนการผลิตที่ดีจะทำให้สามารถติดตามงานการผลิตและควบคุมการผลิตให้ได้ตามเป้าหมายที่กำหนดได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ ลดปัญหาการผลิตและส่งมอบที่ไม่ทันหรือไม่ครบถ้วนได้ ที่สำคัญแผนการผลิตที่ดีจะทำให้เราทราบถึงปัญหาก่อนที่มันจะเกิดและถูกป้องกันมิให้ปัญหาเหล่านั้นเกิดขึ้นมาอีกได้อีก

วัตถุประสงค์

1. เพื่อสามารถผลิตสินค้าได้ทันเวลาและส่งมอบให้กับลูกค้าได้อย่างครบถ้วน และเพื่อสามารถจัดระเบียบการไหลของงานในระบบผลิต และติดตามการทำงานนั้นว่าเป็นไปตามแผนที่ได้วางไว้หรือไม่ เพื่อที่จะได้สามารถแก้ไขปัญหาต่าง ๆ ที่เกิดขึ้นได้ทันเวลา หรือเป็นการเตรียมและจัดการทรัพยากรและความต้องการ ตลอดจนทางเลือกต่าง ๆให้เกิดความพร้อมสำหรับการผลิต

2. เพื่อให้บรรลุตามแผนการที่ได้กำหนดไว้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพมากที่สุด และมีความสามารถในการปฏิบัติการผลิตได้ตามแผนงานที่กำหนดไว้ในทุกขั้นตอนรายละเอียดอย่างครบถ้วน

3. เพื่อสามารถผลิตสินค้าได้ตามแผนที่ต้องการด้วยต้นทุนที่ต่ำอย่างเหมาะสม รวมถึงรู้จักใช้เทคโนโลยีสารสนเทศในการบริหารจัดการกำลังการผลิตได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพสูงสุด
