  วันหนึ่งในขณะที่กระต่ายนอนเล่นอยู่ในป่า มันได้มองเห็นเต่าตัวหนึ่ง มันจึงพูดจาเยาะเย้ยเต่าตัวนั้นว่า
  "เจ้าน่ะ คลานต้วมเตี้ยมแบบนี้ เมื่อไหร่จะไปถึงที่หมายล่ะ ฮ่า ฮ่า ฮ่า"
  เต่าน้อยเมื่อถูกกระต่ายถากถางจึงเกิดความไม่พอใจ และพูดตอบเจ้ากระต่ายไปว่า
  "เจ้าน่ะ มัวแต่หลงตัวเอง เจ้าก็ได้แต่ถากถางคนอื่นไปวันๆ"
  เมื่อเจ้ากระต่ายได้ยินเต่าตอบแบบนั้นก็เลยรู้สึกไม่พอใจ มันจึงท้าเจ้าเต่าวิ่งแข่งกัน
  แน่นอนว่าเมื่อการแข่งขันเริ่มต้นขึ้น เจ้ากระต่ายก็วิ่งนำหน้าเจ้าเต่าไปแบบไม่เห็นฝุ่น เมื่อเจ้ากระต่ายวิ่งไปได้ถึงครึ่งทางมันก็เกิดชะล่าใจว่ายังไงก็ชนะเจ้าเต่าแน่นอน มันจึงเอนตัวลงนอนงีบหลับอยู่ข้างทาง
  เจ้าเต่าก็ยังคงคลานต้วมเตี้ยมจากจุดเริ่มต้นไปเรื่อยๆ อย่างไม่ย่อท้อ จนมันเข้าใกล้เส้นชัย และในขณะเดียวกันเจ้ากระต่ายได้ตื่นขึ้นเห็นเจ้าเต่ากำลังจะวิ่งเข้าเส้นชัย มันจึงรีบวิ่งอย่างรวดเร็ว โดยหวังที่จะคว้าชัยชนะในครั้งนี้
  แต่มันก็สายไปเสียแล้ว เพราะว่าเจ้าเต่าได้คลานเข้าเส้นชัยเสียก่อน ทำให้การแข่งขันในครั้งนี้ เต่าเป็นผู้ชนะ และทำให้เจ้ากระต่ายรู้สึกหน้าแตกยับเยิน และเปลี่ยนแปลงตัวเองจากเป็นกระต่ายที่หลงตัวเอง เป็นกระต่ายนิสัยดีต่อไป
